Young Living Beauty School: True Beauty

When I signed up for Young Living's Beauty School, I thought I would be learning about our beauty line and how to use each product more effectively. I couldn't wait to share all that I learned with the Tree of Life team....

Well, I was HALF right on the topics. I was pleasantly surprised that Young Living took some time to talk to us about TRUE BEAUTY. And today, I'm even more excited to share my new insights on how to maintain beauty inside and out. 

First Things First: What is TRUE BEAUTY? 

It's an age-old saying because it's true: true beauty comes from within. In my opinion, you cannot have outside beauty without inner beauty. When I think about all the people in my life who I believe to be beautiful, they have an inner beauty that shines through, that surpasses any physical beauty.

So, I'm thankful that Beauty School inspired me to adopt a new definition of beauty. One that rings true with my day-to-day experience: 

Beauty is a combination of outside beauty (health, youthfulness and complexion) AND inner beauty (personality, grace, charm, kindness, intelligence).

Beauty: The Holistic Package. 

So, when we talk about beauty, we actually need to take a holistic, inside-out approach. We should address the whole body -- from the mind and emotions to environment and outward appearance. In fact, the way a person sees things, handles situations and physically takes care of themselves has a lot to do with their outward beauty.

Holistic Beauty Quiz

Did you know? You are your face. And when you dislike your face, it is a pretty short step to disliking yourself. Wow. We don’t want to even come close to these thoughts, so here are some questions to make sure you are taking care of yourself inside and out:  

• Are you stressed all the time?
• Do you have a good attitude or positive outlook on life?
• Are you talking positively?
• Are you taking a moment for yourself?
• Are you eating a healthy diet and staying away from toxic environments?
• Are you taking care of your skin and outward appearance?
• Do you have personal care products & household cleaners that are chemical free?

Main takeaway: how you take care of yourself as a whole affects your outward beauty. Is there some area for improvement in your holistic beauty regimen? 

Skin Smarts: As Within As Without

You might not realize that your skin is your largest organ and it reflects the happenings of our internal organs. When you look at your skin like that, you realize how important your skin is and what it might be trying to tell you!

Something that really stuck with me at Beauty School was "as within as without." It is a simple saying that reminds me that what I am putting in my body truly does reflect my outward appearance. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but down the road it will catch up! 

Chemical Reaction

We live in a synthetic world of chemical beauty. Chemicals can damage your DNA and disrupt hormones, while pollutants can accumulate over time in your system and cause all sorts of issues. It is believed by many that what we put on our skin can even be more important than what we put in our mouth.

Everything on our skin is absorbed into our blood stream and body (how do you think essential oils work?). The great thing is with Young Living we have an amazing solution for what we put on our skin. Our whole beauty line is chemical/toxic free and truly does what it’s supposed to do in a healthy approach.

We’re Growing into Tree of Life

Over the past year, For Our Healing has grown. We’ve added new members, cheered on new leaders and created a one-stop site for news, posts, class schedules, tips and more. Whew, 2015 has been busy!

To celebrate, we decided to cultivate our creativity with a new logo (designed by the talented John Cater) and a new name (...drumroll…) Tree of Life. What’s in a name? We think a lot. Here’s why we’re making the shift.

Branching out with our new look! We think our new logo perfectly expresses the Tree of Life concept with a tree silhouetted in an oil droplet. 

“On either side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.”

There’s actually nothing changing about our group’s roots. We believe that God created plants, seeds, leaves, trees and fruit to help us achieve greater day-to-day wellness. So our new name comes straight from a verse that has inspired us from the very beginning, Revelation 22:2.

In our theme verse, we love how the Tree of Life is depicted as the source of fruit and leaves that help the nations maintain wellness. The concept reminded us a lot of what Young Living does with their essential oils, take the pure, life-giving goodness from plants and make them easily accessible for our daily use.

It seems apparent that their desire is to maintain the high standards that have already been set and truly want the best for Young Living and its members.

Highlight #2: Inspirational Humility from Gary Young

"My life would not be as blessed as it is now, without Young Living!" -- Joyce Swanson with our Diamond, Janie Leek. 

Kyle Maynard and Jon Acuff were amazingly inspirational and recharging for me, as well as many other presenters. But the main thing that keeps blessing me is the talk Gary Young did on the last day. I have heard him speak numerous times over the past 4 years. He has always been humble, grateful and passionate about his work. But this year, he went WAY beyond!

His humbleness really just burst forth…which I am sure sounds like an oxymoron….but seriously, he exuded the gratitude he has for his Father God. He was passionate about his desire to be found worthy of all the things God keeps showing him that His People need, and, amazingly, God has protected Gary SO many times as he has pursued his Young Living vision.

I am so honored to be a part of a company, and wider family at Young Living that has such respect for mankind, vision for the future, generosity for those in need, and a line of products that enables all that to happen! My life would not be as blessed as it is now, without Young Living!

Highlight #3: Time with Awesome Team Members

What an amazing two sessions that I was blessed to attend this past week at the Gaylord Texan! This was my 12th workshop to attend and I must say that it was the BEST ever! They just keep getting better each year. I believe that the two highlights for me was having either lunch or dinner with each of my AWESOME team members and getting to know them better and hearing Kyle Maynard speak. What a remarkably inspiring talk he gave at both sessions!

Highlight #4: The Story of Black Spruce Oil

"The convention is like being with 10,000 of your friends!" -- Dena Jones with many of the Tree of Life team. 

I was truly inspired by the speakers, but I got goosebumps when Gary, introduced as The Modern Day Father of Distillation (love that), shared the struggles and obstacles that had to be overcome in building a new farm and distillery so we could have Black Spruce. Located in Ft. Nelson, BC, the new farm has a special ingredient: the electrical charge from the Northern Lights. It comes down to touch the trees. Yes. Really.

I also loved getting to meet, hang out and learn from my upline.

I had many things I loved at the convention. I think the biggest thing I took away was about how to spend regular, even if small, amounts of time to connect with people. I also loved the YL fit exercise and nutrition class. I learned how to make small changes to control appetite, as well as not making excuses when it comes to making exercise a daily habit.

As a first-year attendee to the Young Living Convention I was both very impressed and a bit overwhelmed! I loved the classes and the speakers who seemed very knowledgeable about various topics. It was inspirational to hear that it is not always about curing diseases or treating ailments, but to live a life of wellness accompanied by the oils to achieve wellness, purpose and abundance!

My TOP 5 Young Living Essential Oils

When I decided to share my TOP 5 Young Living Essential Oils, I had to think about it. I love and use so many of them in my family’s daily life, and it was (really) hard to choose! BUT I have risen to the task, and finally come up with my must-have list.

My TOP 5 Young Living Essential Oils: Thieves, Myrrh, Frankincense, DiGize & Idaho Balsam Fir

Thieves Essential Oil Blend

I would bet this oil is on about 99% of people’s must-have lists. We use Thieves Essential Oil blend on the bottom of our feet daily to help with immune system support. It is also diffused often around our house to purify the air. We LOVE all of our Thieves-infused products like Thieves Household Cleaner and Thieves natural hand sanitizer. Don’t leave home without your Thieves!

Fun Fact: Did you know Thieves got its name from thieves (also perfumers by trade) who were robbing the graves of people who had died from the black plague? Finally when the thieves were captured, they gave up their recipe for staying healthy and not catching the black plague for a lighter sentence from the King. The recipe we use today for our Thieves Essential Oil blend comes from those thieves. How Cool!

Myrrh Essential Oil

This oil is my favorite “beauty” oil. Every night I apply Myrrh all over my face. It leaves my skin feeling soft but not greasy and helps maintain clear skin. It has evened out my skin tone and helped rid me of those icky dry skin patches, too. I also loved this oil for my belly when I was pregnant. I used it regularly with coconut oil to keep my skin looking clear and smooth.

Fun Tip: Is your Myrrh Oil bottle lid constantly getting stuck? Rub some coconut oil all along the rim of the bottle and inside the lid. It will loosen the lid and keep it easy to open for months!

Frankincense Essential Oil

Love love love this oil! Not only is it one of the Bible oils given to baby Jesus, but it also has great benefits. In the history books it says it was used from head to toe. When in doubt and not sure what oil to use, I pick up my Frankincense first. It relaxes me and supports skin health. I have also noticed that applying this oil daily to my little one keeps him in a much better mood overall and helps maintain his health. Many people also like to use it daily on the face for fine lines and wrinkles. Frankincense is an oil you can’t go wrong with!

Fun Fact: Did you know Frankincense Oil is actually produced from the resin of the Frankincense tree? The tree looks like a giant Bonsai tree. Check it out!

DiGize Essential Oil Blend

DiGize is my go-to if I eat too much, eat the wrong thing or even just don’t feel quite right. I also used it a lot while I was pregnant to help with that stubborn burning sensation in my throat every time I ate anything! It is my favorite oil for digestion support. 

Fun Tip: Can’t remember what DiGize is used for? Just think, DiGize = Digestion

Idaho Balsam Fir Essential Oil

From the beginning, I always loved the smell of this oil and was drawn to it. It helps me feel relaxed and eases my mind when it’s racing. I have also learned to love it for a better night’s rest as part of my bedtime routine.

Fun Tip: If for some reason I don’t have any Frankincense on hand, I typically grab my Idaho Balsam Fir instead.
